Always in demand

Bay Area SMACNA Project

Construction is always in demand. With a career in the sheet metal and HVAC industry, you’ll help build a successful future for yourself, all while helping build the community around you. Plus, you’ll join an industry that thrives on technology, environmental sustainability and collaboration.

There are two primary paths into our industry: Professional and Apprenticeship roles.

Professional/Management

The opportunities in this field are endless. Bay Area SMACNA contractors regularly have openings for a variety of positions, including:

  • Mechanical engineers
  • Project managers
  • Payroll/Accounting professionals
  • Certified safety and health officers
  • … and more

Salaries are competitive with top-level management positions and many receive bonuses. The industry is constantly evolving and is supported by top-notch training and resources provided through our contractors and our association. One of the measures of the industry’s success is found by the numerous men and women, from leadership positions either with their contractor or from Local 104, who have developed into company owners.

Apprenticeship

Bay Area Apprentice

Funded and administered by a Joint Labor-Management Trust, the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 Bay Area Training Fund provides top-notch training and experience at no cost to you. Men and women who are indentured earn-while-they-learn- at one of District 1’s three training facilities. Many eventually choose to specialize in our unique trade because it is one of the few crafts where you can work with raw materials, fabricate, install, detail, test and balance, and maintain the sheet metal products and HVAC systems.

An apprenticeship with SMART Local Union 104 offers a five-year PAID education with outstanding benefits. Most apprentices receive incremental raises every six months throughout the duration of their apprenticeship program.
