2021 Bay Area SMACNA Intern Program
Since 2000, Bay Area SMACNA’s Intern Program has introduced students to the different career paths available within the construction industry. These students receive valuable hands-on experience and awareness about the importance and impact of our multifaceted sheet metal/HVAC industry. Each year, interns are invited to participate in Intern Training Day, a targeted event that supplements all interns’ on-the-job experience with key knowledge, exposure and understanding of the importance of our industry.
Note: Due to COVID restrictions, it’s possible that Intern Training Day may not be held in 2021. More information is forthcoming.
The Intern Program is pleased to award scholarships to assist in retaining top tier college student interns. Students who complete an internship and who are awarded a SMACNA scholarship receive a 50% increase in their scholarship amount. Last year, Bay Area SMACNA awarded 49 scholarships totaling $168,000 with an additional $10,000 awarded to summer intern participants.
Bay Area SMACNA’s 2021 Intern Program can help member companies employ and engage professional talent in the following ways:
- Hire college student(s) provided through SMACNA
- Hire your own intern(s) and link them to SMACNA’s program for specific benefits
As of this writing, the MOU to hire shop or field interns with Local Union 104, per MOU, is still pending.
