Advisory Meeting Held In-Person for the First Time in Two Years

This year’s advisory meeting was held at the Edgewood Resort in Lake Tahoe from June 9-11. After not meeting for two years due to COVID, the meeting was well attended with 47 members represented. Fourteen of those firms attend for the first time. Being able to get together to discuss issues facing our industry was highly impactful, especially for our new members.
During the meeting, Chris Walker from CAL SMACNA presented on legislation that will affect our industry now and in the future. Sean O’Donoghue gave reports on the status of the collective bargaining agreement, SFUA Wage Opener tentative agreement and Trust Funds. Reports were also given on the JATC grand opening, the new Bay Area SMACNA office and new member portal on the website. Labor Relations Manager Kathy de Jong gave updates on the apprenticeship training fund, certifications and employment statistics. Incoming board members, Michelle Acosta, Mike Fisher and Larry Jimenez, were also announced.
To conclude the meeting, members conducted discussions on nominations for at-large board members, 2022 BAS Lonnie Michael III Achievement Award and the Secretary position on the executive board in break out groups based on regions.
Overall, it was a beneficial few days for our members to network and gain insight into our industry.
