Advisory Meeting Kicks Off Board Nominations and Industry Updates

In February, Bay Area SMACNA held four Regional Advisory Meetings, bringing together representatives from member firms in each region to:

  • Discuss association related matters
  • Receive nominations for area and at-large positions
  • Appoint next year’s board secretary position
  • Recognize the recipient of the 2022 Lonnie Michael Achievement Award

Each Regional Advisory Meeting was well attended. Information was shared by each member representative regarding the business climate this past year as well as forecasting for the coming year.

Currently there are 9 open board positions, 4 area board positions (soon to be announced) and 5 at large. The four areas are Oakland, West Bay/San Francisco, Santa Clara and North Bay and each area board position carries a one-year term with at-large positions carrying a four-year term. Nominations and voting for area nominees occurred at each meeting or by email. At-large board nominations are open until April 1 and can be sent to Bay Area SMACNA Executive Vice President, Sean O’Donoghue. The at-large nominees will be voted upon by all members through an email vote sent by BAS SMACNA to one participant. The deadline for voting will be June 1 and winners of both the regional area and at-large board elections will be announced at the full association Advisory Meeting held in June. This year, due to a larger number of open positions, newly elected board members will take their seats immediately in June rather than starting traditionally at our annual dinner in November. This 18-month term will provide more time to onboard new board members in their role.

Additionally, nominations for the Board of Director’s secretary position for the coming year and 2022 Achievement Award nominations were opened. All nominations for either of those can be sent to Sean O’Donoghue prior to April 1.

Through open discussion/sharing brought forward at each Regional Advisory Meeting, new and old attending members had the chance to network and learn new or relevant industry information. President Rich Buckley attended all sessions enabling him to better understand the needs of our members and share relevant points at the areas. Topics such as work hours and projections, pension reform, and apprenticeship updates were discussed. In addition, details on Bay Area SMACNA’s new building were shared.

Contractors are strongly encouraged to designate a member representative to attend the full association Advisory Meeting in June for a deeper dive into additional industry information and targeted networking.
