Boots Scholarship for New Apprentices

The Women in Construction Community Involvement team piloted a fundraiser to help 1st and 2nd year apprentices pay for one of the most costly and important pieces of safety equipment needed for their careers — work boots! A GoFundMe fundraiser was established highlighting stories of Local 104 apprentices and journeywomen and the challenge of saving for comfortable, steel toed boots early in their career. The original goal of $2,000 in donations was exceeded early on, and as of this writing, over $3,000 in donations had been received by generous contractors, JATC leaders, Local 104 members and WIC members.

Scholarship applications were distributed to Local 104 District 1 apprentices in their first and second year through the JATC’s Total Track System. Winners will receive a minimum of $200 toward the purchase of new industry standard work boots at local specialty stores.
