United Mechanical Celebrates 20 Years

Founded by Tom Sosine and Jon Gundersen in 2003, United Mechanical was built on the foundation of customer service. The company operates under the philosophy that every client is important, and no project is more important than theirs.

“We strive to deliver the absolute best when it comes to the outcome of every project. The relationship is key,” said Leonard Bertolami, President and CEO. “We value a teamwork environment across all trades, and the measurement of a successful project is a repeat customer.”

The company began with a strong regional focus on work in the South Bay, and included a small service division, small plumbing division and an architectural sheet metal division. Today, United continues to grow and specializes in HVAC and plumbing systems design, construction, retrofit, repair and 24/7 emergency service for commercial and industrial properties. United has expanded their reach to include offices in San Jose, Rohnert Park, Alameda, Hayward and West Sacramento.

“Over the last four years we have experienced stable growth, especially in our service and maintenance division, seeing year-over-year revenue approaching 20 percent,” Bertolami said.

Celebrating 20 years in business, United is led by five principals: Bertolami, Neal Fox, Bill Hadinger, Brian Sosine and Frank Nascimento. Together, the executive team works to ensure that the more than 400 United employees deliver on the company’s promise of unrivaled quality and service excellence — a mission that starts, in part, with the talent they recruit and retain.

“Our culture is at the core of who we are,” Bertolami said.  “This starts with United’s recruiting efforts.

We go the extra mile, visiting several of the top mechanical engineering universities.  We provide an extensive 12-week internship during the summer where interns learn how to use estimating software, read and analyze drawings, and even visit ongoing jobsites for hands-on experience.”

The United team is proud to have played a key role in some of the area’s most high-profile and technically demanding projects in recent years. Among them is the 175,000 square foot, 5-story SmartLabs facility, complete with suites that include R&D labs, vivariums, process development suites and cleanrooms. The 5th story has been designed and built with all electric air source heat pumps to be compliant with Current Good Manufacturing Practice standards.

Whether working in a data center, bio-pharmaceutical facility, industrial plant or higher education building, clients can depend on United Mechanical as a trusted partner for their HVAC and plumbing systems as well as ongoing service and maintenance.
