WIC Leadership Team Summit Sets Goals for Future

 

The Women in Construction (WIC) Leadership Team had a productive and engaging day of strategic planning, collaboration and networking during their first Strategic Planning Summit meeting in August. The organization, now four years in the making, first started with the vision of SMACNA National President Angie Simon. The initial goal has been to provide an organization that would increase the recruitment, engagement and connection of women while benefitting contractors throughout the sheet metal industry. With the support of Bay Area SMACNA Executive Vice President Sean O’Donoghue and the Bay Area SMACNA Board of Directors, WIC has grown to 330+ members.

The Leadership Team reviewed key accomplishments, updated their mission statement and determined priorities for 2022 and beyond with designated leaders to The WIC Leadership Team held its first Strategic Planning Summit in August drive the results. Key objectives for the future include increasing participation of men and women from sheet metal contractors of all sizes, establishing a mentoring program, impacting SMACNA WIC development statewide and building upon existing programs and events.

Facilitated by WIC advocate and previous presenter Chris Bennett, the group of leaders from project engineers to business owners found the session to be positive, energizing and constructive. New leadership team members had the opportunity to meet others in person for the first time, and veteran WIC leaders also appreciated the chance to brainstorm together. With 40 programs and events hosted in the first four years, all celebrated the accomplishments made possible by the talents and time given by the collective group of volunteers — while looking with hope for even greater achievements in the future.
